Welcome to
the home page of the Portsmouth Irish Society. The Irish Club is a friendly private members club, and
a member of the Federation of Irish Societies
It is situated in Elm Grove Southsea a short taxi ride from any of the
city's three main rail stations or the Isle of Wight & Gosport
Ferries. It was first opened in 1949 and was originally located within
St.Josephs church hall and later moved to Fratton Trade Club by Fratton Bridge, moving to its current Events
in 1973. The club employs 8 regular bar staff and has approximately 600
members who are able to enjoy the friendly relaxed atmosphere and
regular entertainment such as music every week and, of course, Irish dancing.
Facilities include a members bar, a large function hall with its' own
bar plus pool, darts and table football
Regular entertainment includes
Thurday evening Quiz followed by the members Tresure Chest
drawBar Music every Friday nightClub dances every 6 to 8 weeks (please check the Events page for details)Meat raffle on Sunday afternoon with Bingo in the eveningAnd don't forget the Irish dancing! adults on Sunday
afternoon and the children on MondayWe also organise trips for members, memorable events in the
past
have included Riverdance, Ireland Rugby and of course the christmas
pantomine!
